Six-acre site in Midtown Kitchener assembled for transformative SIXO development

KITCHENER: Earlier today, ZehrGroup completed the acquisition of 641 King Street West. The procurement completes the six-acre site assembled by the group for a massive mix-used development in Downtown Kitchener’s Innovation District. Preliminary plans for the development, called SIXO Midtown, include three condominium towers, a purpose-built apartment, as well as office and retail space, which could include a much-needed grocery store.

“This is a significant step forward for the project,” says ZehrGroup CEO, Don Zehr. “The purchase of 641 King allows us to fully realize our vision for SIXO and all that it brings to the Innovation District.”

Ideally located across the street from Google’s new Canadian development office, SIXO initial planning provides for close to 1 million square feet of new residential and commercial buildings. ZehrGroup plans to unveil the design of the SIXO community to the public in March 2017.

According to ZehrGroup, SIXO will be a major step forward in the development of the growing Midtown between Downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo. This area is gaining a reputation for its growing concentration of technology companies and condominium living. SIXO will be at the centre of the rapid development that is taking place in Midtown, near the corner of King and Victoria. This positions SIXO at the threshold of downtown and steps from the future Transit Hub, connecting the Region’s current and future transit options, including the new ION light rail transit, Grand River Transit, expanded GO train and bus, VIA Rail, Greyhound, Coach Canada and CarShare,

Plans for SIXO align with the City of Kitchener’s vision for the Innovation District and surrounding area. In addition to providing high-rise condo living and modern office space, SIXO will also provide essential services for residents and the growing number of tech employees in the area.
