We have contributed to the reshaping of Kitchener’s downtown core and Innovation District into an active and attractive technology sector. Although we are based in the Waterloo Region, Zehr Group has undertaken projects across Canada. The Zehr Group has a long family history of entrepreneurship and development. Lester Zehr and his brother Cliff opened the first Zehr’s Market in 1950. Within ten years, the family-run operation had expanded to six locations. In 1963, Loblaw’s purchased 60 per cent of the business, and in 1973, Lester left the corporation to pursue other business ventures, starting Zehr Group, a real estate and construction firm, soon after. His entrepreneurial spirit was passed on to his children, and in 1984, Don Zehr joined the company to work with his father.
In 1993, Don took over as CEO and expanded the business to include development and property management. Today the Zehr Group is the parent company to three business divisions: Zevest Development Corporation, Zehr Levesque Inc., and Zehr Management Inc. Together with management partners Reg Levesque and John MacDonald, the Zehr Group has become a rising star in a wide range of real estate services.
Our team is comprised of a talented group of top-performing project managers and coordinators, property managers, and site personnel. In addition to being leaders in their fields, many of our staff have achieved industry certifications including Gold Seal and LEED accreditations.

Chief Executive Officer Don Zehr was not always planning on being in the real estate business, but after several years piloting aircraft for a Toronto based airline, he found his passion through the family business. In 1984, he began working with his father at Zehr Group, learning and developing the property portfolio. In 1993, he took over as CEO and has since advanced the Zehr Group to what it is today: a unique, multifaceted real estate business specializing in development, construction, and property management.
