ESTIMATOR/PRE-CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR
Zehr Construction, the construction division of Zehr Group, is looking for an Estimator/Pre-Construction Coordinator to join our growing team. In your capacity as an Estimator/ Pre-Construction Coordinator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day Estimating and/or Pre-Construction of various Projects as assigned.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Assist the Estimating and Pre-Construction team on various construction projects.
- Conduct detailed bid document reviews to understand the full extent of work and which sub-contractors will be involved.
- Conduct detailed review of preliminary bid documents during the early Pre-Construction phases to identify the extent of work required, determine possible constructability and access concerns and comment on the schedule/ sequencing feasibility.
- Complete a wide variety of quantity take-offs as required for preparing bids.
- Create bid forms and detailed scopes of work for all subcontractors. Ensure all subcontractor scopes of work are properly coordinated for seamless integration.
- Review all received subcontractor quotes and summarize them on bid levelling sheets.
- Have a keen eye for catching subcontractor exclusions and potential risks that may require scope gap allowances.
- Review bid documents for Estimating and Pre-Construction to identify discrepancies and comment on possible constructability concerns and/or risks that should be identified.
- Regularly communicate with subtrades during active bidding and budgets to ensure proper coverage.
- Manage all subcontractor requests for information (RFI’s) and communicate with applicable consultants as necessary to obtain answers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regular subcontractors and consultants.
- Assist with preparation of project budgets and estimate summary sheets.
- Participate in the tasks required on a high-energy closing day of a lump sum bid submission.
- Assist with Pre-Construction administration including preparation of site logistics plans, bidding schedules, and meeting minutes.
- Assist with the preparation of Zehr Construction proposals in response to RFPs for new projects.
- Engage in Owner, Consultant, and Subcontractor meetings as required.
- Other duties, as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Our ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starter with a drive to learn new skills. Someone who is an enthusiastic, team-player with a basic understanding of the construction industry. An organized individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. A recent graduate of a construction-related diploma or degree program with 2-3 years’ experience.
- Experience with the web-based software Procore is considered an asset.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu and AutoCad for completing takeoffs is considered an asset.
- Experience with various Microsoft programs (i.e. Office, Excel, Project) is considered an asset.
- The successful candidate should be detail oriented and have excellent time management skills.
- The successful candidate should have a degree or diploma in a construction related post-secondary education program.
